i enabled audio and video attachments but when i test it and try uploading a m4a or mp4 my files dont show, and if i change the dropdown menu to all files and click the file i want to upload it says invalid file extension
are there settings somewhere else that i need to change for it to work?

never mind i figured it out i had to allow those extensions in the settings but i still dont understand what this option does?

That means you will still get a nice cBB Attachments look to your attachments, for file extensions that are not explicitly defined in any of the special groups.
If you turn the option off, you will get the built-in phpBB look for them.

In order for extensions to work for you, you need to enable them in the phpbb settings. The configuration of cBB attachments is complementary but phpBB also relies on its configuration.
ACP > Messages > Manage attachment extensions
